WEDDING HAIR UP AND MAKEUP – INTRODUCTION

A woman is most beautiful on her wedding day. Her hair, make-up,
nails and attire are superlative, reflecting not only who she is, but
showing her at her very best. She is perfectly coiffed, made up and
clothed in the very best. After all, she knows that she will be
photographed more on that very special day than any other day in her
entire lifetime. Her wedding day is extraordinary in so many ways. First
of all, she is taking a life-altering step by tying the knot with her
beloved. Whether or not she has lived at home with her parents up to
this day, she is beginning her life anew. So, there is no wonder that
she wants to look her best. As she embarks on this brand new life, her
hair and make-up must reflect that as well. It must also be able to
stand up to a long day of wear and tear as she moves through the day
from the pre-wedding photos to the wedding and reception, as well as the
festivities that take place after the reception is over and the guests
go home. In addition, the bride’s hair and make-up must not look
overdone, painted on or garish in any way.
The hairstyle should complement the bride’s wedding attire.
Regardless of whether the bride’s hair is long or short, light or dark,
curly or straight, the headdress, veil, hat or other hair adornment must
be the first consideration when selecting a hairdo, making sure that the
coif du jour does not overpower the headgear in any way, and that it
complements the shape of the bride’s face.
The same goes for her make-up. The new bride wants her look to be
natural, long lasting and demure. It is very easy for a good make-up
artist to come up with a look that fits the mood of the day. While
foundation is seldom advisable for younger women, applying a good
foundation that matches the bride’s skin-tone on her wedding day will
help her maintain that picture perfect look all day long. Her blush
should be barely noticeable. The bride’s eye shadow palette should be
modest, but not to the extreme. It is a good idea for the colors used on
her eyelids to correspond with her bouquet, the bridesmaid’s dresses and
the theme and colors of the day. Unless her natural eye lashes are
non-existent or so thin they are barely there, false eye lashes are to
be avoided or used very sparingly.
Even if the bride normally accentuates her lips, her wedding day is
quite probably the one day when she may want to consider toning down the
lipstick. Her lipstick should be soft and gentle in hue, with just a
faint touch of lip liner. Pearlescent, shinny lipstick is not suitable
for the wedding day. Bright, shiny lipstick will look garish in
photographs and should not be used if at all possible. Gentle, matte
colors are best.
